I'm unable to get the news api working. I've tried the NHL request with no success:

NHL,,,Text,,,

Here's the documentation I've found, please point towards any examples or other docs:

The call requires a 't' for Text or an 'x' for XML.
NHL,,,t,,, worked fine for me.

Yes. Take a look at the level 1 data socket. You can turn on a headline news stream in that connection.
